Philadelphia Freedom Band:
THE First Openly LGBT Group to March in the Independence Day Parade.

Thanks to all our musicians, color guard, supporters, donors and friends for making this historic day happen.

Philadelphia Freedom Band Takes Top Prize

At Philly Gay Pride, the Philadelphia Freedom Band won the “best marching with music” award — in its inaugural debut in the parade.  The band played “Sir Duke” by Stevie Wonder, “The Liberty Bell March” by John Phillip Sousa and “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond.  The crowd especially loved this last song; many people sang along as we marched by.

This was the inaugural debut of our color guard.  They made the band very proud.  Their skill and grace was noticed by the crowd.  We are so pleased to have them.

The plaque (picture at right) was presented to several band members on stage at the Philly Gay Pride Festival.  We are grateful for this recognition and hope to continually earn it in coming years.

I was heading up Market Street on the way to the Market East Station today (06/13/10) and stopped to listen to your performance of the, “Liberty Bell March”-wow that was great! You should contact the, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts regarding a spot at the Summer Solstice event. You gave Peter Nero and the Philly Pops a run for their money with your talent!

Congratulations on this milestone. The band sounded great!
I did a video montage of the parade and have some of you throughout it.
